How to Stick to Your Resolutions and Stay Healthy in the New Year

For many people, the New Year is about making resolutions, but it can be discouraging when you don’t get very far with them. If you’re tired of making goals and not sticking to them, reconsider how you are going about it this year. Planning ahead and being firm on your decisions is only the beginning of following through on your New Year’s resolutions.

  • Be realistic. Start by coming up with realistic goals and 2014 New Year’s resolutions. Making a pledge to lose 50 pounds in three months may not be realistic, and may make you feel like you failed when you don’t lose those pounds. Instead, make a goal to increase your water intake, eat more fruits and vegetables, walk three times a week, or cut back on an unhealthy habit, like drinking soda.
  • Start right away. Beginning in January, make a list of what you hope to achieve in 2014. But instead of just listing these resolutions, include ways you plan to make them happen. Put your action plan in motion right at the beginning of the year so you don’t have anything holding you back. Starting slow and steady helps you stick to your resolutions past the first week of January.
  • Avoid doing too much. Multi-tasking is a good skill to learn as it helps you accomplish more, even with minimal time and resources. But there comes a point when you are attempting to do too much. If you’re trying to do too many things, you may get overwhelmed, experience stress, and then just stop altogether out of frustration. It’s important to be realistic with what you hope to achieve. Don’t be afraid to ask for help and support when you need it.
  • Improve physical health. If your physical health is one of your most important 2014 New Year’s resolutions, consider ways of improving it. Getting chiropractic care regularly can help you rebalance your body’s nervous system, improving just about every part of your body. This is a great start and basis for improving your overall physical health and wellbeing.
  • Pamper yourself. Reward yourself for sticking to your resolutions by pampering yourself, whether it is a day of shopping or hour long therapeutic massage. These small things you do for yourself have a large impact in your confidence, self-esteem, and energy. This, in turn, further helps you reach your goals.

Always remember to set realistic goals and resolutions and focus on health benefits, as good health and wellness can positively impact so many areas of your life.
